This probably sounds stupid but I bought a 79 and the gas pedal is broken. The "L" shape metal rod is still fine but the pedal keeps sliding off. Couldn't find much and I was wondering if anyone here has replaced a gas pedal.
I've got the same issue. The bushing (78127) on the back of the pedal broke and does not stay in place. Replacement pedals have been discontinued, so it'll have to be used. I've been looking for months with no success. Somewhere on here a guy fabricated a replacement out of plastic. I can't find the thread at the moment, but it was a nice looking solution.
I used a newer pedal on my Trekker , as well as a bit of the original .
the original is a bad design , Rust is a big issue at the mount on the floor point .. so I wanted something better .

You might check out KawaZX636's build posts # 796 on page 40, for a pedal replacement. There are two posts located below each other, that shows what others have done. Might help ya with ideas and solutions.
I did the same thing that Slacker did, except I got the donor pedal out of a 98 Ford Ranger. A quick trip to the bone yard will give you unlimited options. I don't think very many newer cars have a gas pedal the attaches to the floor any more.
