ECU from a 94 Crown transmission

i beleave the 94 1UZFE with auto transmission from a Crown which has a separate transmission ECU
this has been installed into my ford 1948 F1 pick up. i need to replace the 94 engine with a 1999 1UZFE because of partial loss of power soon after warming up which has been unable to be solved by several mechanics.
how do i identify that indeed the transmission has a separate ECU so it can be retained in the swap.
help apreciated for a non mechanic.

Not sure if you found your answers somewhere else, but here's what I know:
The sure fire way to find the transmission ECU is to follow the wires. You'll see a bundle of wires coming out of the transmission - some will head to the shifter, and some will head to the ECU. So follow all the wires and you'll eventually find it. I would think that if there is a separate trans ECU, the guy who did the swap would have mounted it right next to the engine ECU.
Now, I see a little problem with your plan - the 98-2000 1UZ has VVTI and uses a 5 speed auto transmission - as opposed to your early 1UZ which is non-VVTI and uses a 4 speed auto. The VVTI engines do not have a separate transmission ECU. In short, a 99 engine won't play nice with your 94 trans. You'll want to swap in another early engine as a replacement, or change everything over (engine, trans, ECU) to the later version. Be aware that the later version also uses an immobilizer.

thanks helped a lot with making up my mind.
i am considering a C4 ford to the 99 1UZ as the 94 1UZ has some problem as poor power after warming up.
however i will chase the TCU when i pull the 94 and transmission out as a learning exercise.
cannot waist the knowledge gained.
