What Engine?
Alright, before y'all go and subscribe, let me explain.
I've owned my 1982 toyota almost 3 years now and put almost 20k on the 22r, which now had close to 350,000 miles. I am trying to sell it, but if nobody will give me what its worth, I refuse to sell for less and will probably keep it, and drive the crap out of it until the 22r croaks. After that is what I need help with.
Here is a shortlist of engines I am thinking of swapping.
Rebuild/Replace 22r
By far the most cost effective and easiest, but even when I'm done it won't be a huge improvement, just run better.
Turn the 22r into an re
I'd have to get a later-model engine, but this would be a simple, somewhat cheap swap which would net me some power and driveability upgrades with the fuel injection.
3rz (2.7L)
I have one in my tacoma and I love it, tons of power, good fuel economy. Here's where I get into a lot of wiring issues though, and I would probably go with a painless harness and redo the truck wiring (not great as is). Obviously I'd get a different transmission too.
5vz-fe (3.4L V6)
I rather like these engines. They have a ton of power, are reliable, and I really like the smoothness of the power. Here I not only get into wiring, but also fabbing brackets. However, its not unthinkable as a lot of places sell 3.4 swap kits.
1KZ-TE (3.0L Turbo Diesel)
I would really like to have this diesel. I can get a mechanical pump model (NO ECU) for somewhat cheap, that comes with a transmission. These make good power and get pretty good mileage. May run into problems converting to a diesel fuel system though, and swap kits are not as readily available as they are for other options.
1uzfe (Lexus v8)
Honestly the only reason I even bring this up is it would be freaking awesome. I'm not sure if it'd even fit, and if it would all the fabbing and wiring would be a major pain, but I can dream right?
So What do y'all think?

Well I have a few suggestions that may help narrow it down.
Rebuild, great idea. Easy, and the Cheapest. Turning from an R to an RE. Sounds like a lot of extra work for not that much pay off. 3rz I would put in the same place as the 22re. 3.4L is a great swap for folks, but it would require more pieces then most cause you have a 22r. I not a diesel person and the 1uz swap has been done, yes it will fit and I plan to do it to my 2nd gen. 4Runner. If you go with the 3.4 or the 4.0 my suggestion would be to get a wrecked car as to make it a lot easier. Good lukc in whatever you do.
