Not really sure what to call it, but anyways...

I am sure a lot of you have seen The Allen Jensen snorkel that he runs PVC in to the rear of the engine, via the quarter panel. Or Chris Geigers stlye where he leaves it in the quarter panel. (which I thing is a better idea my self just from the cooler air)

Well this is my version. 10 minutes of work and over night to cure so start around 4 on a friday, and then drink the night away, It will be ready by morning. Much easier and takes no brains to do. Open the air box, take out the filter. Remove the little funnel that toyota puts behind the headlight, the throw it as far as you can. The 3 inch tube that goes into the box you keep. Get some 3 inch aluminum dryer vent, Lowes, Home depot any hardware store in America carries it, and a tube of Caulking. Now I use something called NP1. Why? because it works for a long long time. Don't use silicon. It shrinks under age, and heat makes it go faster. Please dont argue this point with me, I was a roofer, and do Construction now, Silicon sucks. Cut your self a 3and a half inch hole right above the wires that are by the airbox, leaving your self enough room to turn a nice angle in the duct. IE as far forward as you can. Coat the hole with duct tape to make the edges nce and smooth. Now take off the splash guards in the wheel well if they are still there, If not then this wont work, rocks will eat the duct. Gently place the duct through the hole, and but it to the airbox hole. Try hard not to crush it putting it in. Now coat the inside of the duct with a heavy bead of caulk, Do the same to the tube, but you put the caulk on the skinny end of the tube. Put the tube in the airbox and slide the skinny end out and into the duct. Yes it is in there backwards It is suppose to slide into the duct, not over it. The large end being on the inside will keep it from falling out, Well that and the cured caulk. Put the airfilter on the drivers seat so you rember to put it back in before you drive again. Kind of gently shove the rest of the duct up into the top of the quarter panel. I got mine about 6 inches from the mirror. It held itself up there. Put back the splash guard, and get a beer. Drink that one and repeat till you pass out. When you wake up the caulk will be cured solid and now you can hit water a bit harder. No it is not a true snorkel, but now the intake is away from the front of the truck, up about 10 inches higher, and only cost $5.00 and 10 minutes.

Yeah I read yours too bruce, I was only posting this one for the people that are not all that inclined on tools and stuff. I do admire the design. I was just giving a very simple solution to a major problem.

that cracked me up

this is a good mod to do, im sure i pulled plenty of crap into my K&N open intake system, i wish id never put it on. But then again, if my old motor hadnt started having issues i wouldnt have a supra motor sitting in my engine bay the full K&N is nice for a litte extra power, but it provides 0 protection from mudd/dirt in real offroading situations. In retrospect i woulda done this instead
