Is anyone witha v6 S.C running regular grade gasoline?
with the soaring prices I am considering running 87 vs the 93 that I have had in the truck since day1.

 

I tried it once in a pinch and it pinged so bad that I could almost hear the damage being done to my engine. I went home and drained it out and have not done that again.

There's a good reason they recommend premium fuel, it needs it. If gas prices have got you down, pull the charger and sell it. Running low octane is just asking for trouble.

 

i never put anything less than midgrade in my tacoma--you cant be cheap and expect good performance.

Don't do it, not worth saving a few pennies a gallon to mess your engine up. I have to pay an additional $3.00(price between 87 & 91) for every tank of gas I get. Havingthe s/c power more than makes up for that $3.00. Again don't do it.

 

There was a guy a while back that was running regular in his supercharged 3.4. He said it ran pretty good and did not ping to bad at all. He said that there was not much of a power loss and he was pretty happy with it.

Then one day his engine started running rough and lost power, a lot of power. It seems that huge holes were eaten through the tops of three of his pistons and he posted pictures of the pistons here.

So, you decide what fuel grade is best for you and your truck. I know what I am going to run in mine.

I also have a paxton supercharged mustang gt with all the goodies.

 

Highway cruising and staying out of the boost you can probably get away with running low/medium grade. Once you step on the accelerator and the boost kicks in, all bets are off, and you better have the good stuff in. If you don't like it, as someone else suggested, you could always sell it.

 

I had to run 87 in a pinch while travling in southern Illinois, and I could hear the difference immediately. I only put enough in to get me to a real station and didn't push the engine at all, but I wasn't comfortable with it at all.

As has been said, if you're feeling the pinch that badly, pull the SC & sell it. Me, I'm traveling a lot and not using the truck and when I do drive, I use my wife's Altima when she's not using it. The cost difference isn't that much more, and you knew what you were getting into when you installed the SC initially. It's not worth the small savings for the potential expensive, NON-WARRANTY engine damage.

He was running regular gas and BOSH Platnum +4 spark plugs and did some nice damage to his engine.

 

ok thanks for the input .. I am NOT going to pull the S.C there is no way . I have too much time and money invested. I just did not know what everyone else was doing..

Horsepower costs money in so many ways and continues.
