Hey I'm pulling the head for the first time on my 22R, I've gotten everything off, even the *#&#( rusted exhaust manifold bolts...BUT I can't get the stupid screw on the rotor off the distributor! I'm getting just about ready to crack the freaking plastic cover with a chisel & hammer!!! I've tried a flat screw driver, philips driver, drill with philips, sockets, adjustable wrench, I soaked it with WD-40, soaked it overnight with WD-40, sprayed it with PB blaster, It's the last external part I need to remove, and it's SIEZED on there. Is there any reason not to ลลลล it up with a hammer?

 

Impact driver will take it off.

Is it screwed in to aluminum? I had a similar problem when I was tuning up my old Nissan Pathy 4 cyl. I did end up breaking the dist cap completely off, then using a small plumbers torch, heated the area aroung the screw and finally got it off with vise grips. I mangled the screwhead with all of the above mentioned methods, but the stubborn little screw was siezed bad in the aluminum of the dist housing. Good luck...

 

You already removed the dist. from the head, right? If your talking about the two little screws holding the dist. cap on, I would grind down the heads of the screws until the cap comes off. There should still be about 1/4" of threads you can put vise grips on and work back and forth.(Try heating up the alum. first). If they break off flush ,it's time to drill and tap out new threads.

 

I tried to take my cap off to do my own tune up but mine were seized too. i decided to let my mechanic do it (if he breaks it he can pay the 900.00$Can. it costs to replace. We ended up removing the whole thing from the block and putting it in the vice. No wd-40 so we used brake fluid and a blow torch method : soak in brake fluid and let sit.. (this was after we broke the heads on the screws) , apply vise grips and wiggle a bit , apply blow torch and wiggle while heating... loosen off a few turns and let cool ...apply more brake fluid and repeat... and repeat ..... We eventually got them outwith out stripping the hole or damageing the dist. it took about an hour just on 2 screws... To prevent it from happening again put some anti-seize on the screws before you reinstall. Aviator

It's always nice to see the censor software still works.

 

The impact driver for the home machanic long screw driver and a hammer,can be bfh if you need it. I used this method to 'break' the screw on the fan fluid coupling. Each one needs a few stong wacks w/ the bfh. make sure you have good down pressure on the driver. A buddy pushing on your shoulder can be very effective.

Okay, well, in the end, I pried the cover off with a screwdriver and broke the plastic off from around the screw, I'm currently considering heating up the screw and trying to get it out somehow VS taking the top of the screw off with a dremel and leaving it in for the next cap (and sealing the cap with a bit of silicone in the hole there)
