Hey guys,
First time on here posting, and my first time owning a Toyota. I have a 87 pick up standard cab short bed. Its all stock with a little bigger tires. I must say that this little truck rides STIFF. It rides stiffer than my 1ton diesel to say the least...

I do notice I have a sag too. I have an idea on how I think I can get a softer ride and maintain a stock height the budget way. Now this is an idea and it may be ridiculous, but that's why I'm here for feedback.

Could I remove the thick overload spring, and add a 3 or more inch spacer block to the leafspring to make up for the sag? I seem to have stiff shocks already so I think I'll be okay there. Do you guys think that will work to achieve a smoother ride and possible more downward travel? Or am I crazy? I don't put anything heavy in the bed so I wouldn't have to worry about overloading it.I just believe the leafs now are old and resting on the overload...

Or just buy new springs.. Orrrr do what I was going to do and add on the zuk mod? I just want a softer ride with stock height.

Honestly it's just as easy and cheap to do the add a leaf. I had blocks in and my bump stops would smack if I sneezed. May end up bit over stock though.

 

I want a smoother ride. Won't an add a leaf cause it to be stiffer? It might be to much of a hassle. Maybe its worth just getting new rest leafs or having them refurbished?

 

I had the same issue. I replaced my shocks and It rode better but still pretty saggy and rode hard. I recently replaced leaf springs with slightly newer ones that already had an add-a-leaf. Rides much better and sits at stock height. I would imagine the thickness and strength of the AAL has a lot to do with it. Good luck!

 

Blocks will only lift, not fix your ride quality. Yours is a common problem. Search the forum. There are many proven solutions to your problem. your choice which on to do.

 

If you want a smoother ride get a 4runner mine has such a smooth ride compared to the Tacoma I have to relearn how to drive it when I change vehicles.

It is a short wheel base truck meant to haul 1000 pounds in it`s day.

Perhaps new springs then do some adjusting of the spring pack to you get the ride you want.

What you call a stiff ride I might think is normal no way to really know.
