1997 4Runner V6 3.4L threw piston rod
#1
Hello everyone! Well my truck decided to throw a piston rod thru the side of the block. My truck is a 1997 SR5 2WD 5VZE. I honestly do not feel like going thru the hassle of doing an engine swap, not to mention the cost associated with it. I guess I'm asking for ideas on what should I do. Do you think is possible to sell it as is? If so, how much I can expect to get for it around the So Cal area? Below is my truck's build up thread that includes everything that I have done to the truck for the past 3-5 years. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I will post pictures of the damage soon., for your enjoymnet!!
Thank you!

Hi. Ouch! Sorry to read this. Any indication something was amiss before it went?
I have no idea on pricing, but the buyer will be looking for a steep discount...at least I would.
Maybe someone will chime in with a idea on cost for a 3.4 to 3.4 swap... it may not be much different than the price drop for selling a rig with a blown engine.

That's the odd thing about it, i got absolutely no indications that the engine was going out! I was doing about 45mph on heavy traffic, and the engine just stopped. the RPM went from about 1800-2000 to 0 in a split second. after stopping and attempting to start the engine, it wouldn't even turn. I'll be removing the bottom cover tomorrow to assess the extend of the damage.

Better off fixing it IMO, particularly with a modded truck. Figure you would get at least $2500 less then you would with a running engine. Which means you are not looking at not much for the truck.

I am sure if you think about this for a few days you will fix it.
Then only you know sell it as is and be willing to take a big loss on all the time and money spent.
If it is mechanical it will fail sooner or later.
Best of Luck.

Well it is confirmed, the block is crack around the oil filter port. I've already found a JDM engine with about 60k miles for $1,100. But I noticed that the engine has the oil filter in a different location compared to my engine. The new engine has the filter located where my engine has the oil cooler. Will these be a problem?
