4.1 Pontiac Swapped in by PO - What T-Case?

Doing some research for my buddy's '82 Pickup. He bought it with what we believe is a carbureted 4.1 Pontiac V6 already swapped in by the previous owner. We are trying figure out what the drivetrain would be. The transfer case is in poor working order. The front bearing is shot, seal leaking terribly, and the front driveshaft is pretty tough. Is this a common swap? Any thoughts on the model of the transfer case? I took pictures of the t-case but I don't have enough posts to attach them. The only indicator numbers I could find were on the back cover. I'm thinking it's a NP 205 but I'm not familiar with this setup and wanted to double check. Thanks!

Numbers:
7
5082
C-97828

Haven't heard of a 4.1 Pontiac. What trans does it have? Driver drop transfer case or passenger? What's the shift pattern?

After looking around some more, I think it may be a Buick 252. The transmission is the next mystery...possibly a 4 speed 10 spline, TH350 27 spline, or 400 32 spline...educated guesses. Not sure what you mean by the drop. Not familiar with that. Shift pattern is straight starting at top: 4LO N 2HI 4HI.

Th350 and th400 are 3 speeds…
Which side of the vehicle is the front driveshaft on? Is the transfer case iron or aluminum?

The front driveshaft is on the passenger side.

The case is cast.

It's an automatic. Sorry, I was copying and pasting options under the slip yoke column from a rebuild site.

Sorry, I really need to slow down and think when I type this stuff...

Case is cast iron. If I remember correctly, it had a very square trans pan.

Ok it should be a TH350 trans which is a 3 speed. And either a NP203 or NP205 transfer case. Google image those and see if you see anything that match up.

I did Google it. It appears to be an NP205. So best guess without splitting the t-case from the trans and counting splines, thinking the TH350?

Google image search TH350, TH400, or 700R4 trans pans. 350 is square with a notch missing from one corner, 400 is shaped like Texas, 700r4 is square.
