After searching, i havent been able to find a good answer. I already have an 86 4runner and possibly going to buy another one. The only thing about this one is the front and rear bumpers have been damaged, but is otherwise in good shape.

Im wondering if this is worth fixing or if it will be a headache trying to get them to line back up properly.

My question is what is the best way to go about aligning them? Can i simply replace them with a new/different bumper or will i have to bend/pull things back into place? If its simply buying new brackets and sourcing new bumpers i dont mind doing this, but im not sure about bending it.

This truck is going to be semi-restored (new paint, etc) and i want it to look factory fresh. My other runner will probably see some torture. Thanks!

The best answer is maybe

No way to tell what your getting into till your underneath looking and measuring.

If the bumpers are dinged up no big deal.] If it is only the bumpers I would buy it just because if the price was right.

You can make front and rear bumpers

If the hood and fenders are buckled that is a big difference.

The hood, fenders, and grill all seem to line up. The front looks to be pushed in and the obvious gap on passenger side. I havent been able to see the car in person yet. Anything i should look for that will tell me whether ill have to bend it back or not?

Is your final goal to have it look factory original??

Being it is a 86 finding new bumpers from Toyota will be very difficult you most likely will end up with after market.

Other then the dinged bumpers the paint looks better then any of the ones I have.

If the price is right and the rest is in good shape go for it.

 

Luckily i have another one in my driveway with all the original parts i would need to swap over. So one could be factory original while the other could be aftermarket or just sit around until i source the oem parts to but back on.

In your opinion, just from the pictures given, would you guess that the mounting brackets would need to be bent in order to get everything to line back up? If you havent noticed, and if youve seen my other projects, im pretty ocd when it comes to things lining up. Gaps make me

 

I would say the mounting bracket is bent as well. Replacing it is easy to do. Dont see where you are located but those are fairly easy to find.

The end caps will eventually come off. I use carriage bolts about the same size as the bumper bolts and remove the tab that is glued on and run the bolts thru the center in the back side of the caps. It looks like it could of come from the factory this way and they are never going to come off again. I have lost Toyota and aftermarket end caps on the road and this is how I fixed my issues. This is an old picture and I have it algined and painted but the only one I could find right off.

 

If the bumpers themselves aren't damaged, you should be able to use a BFH and some muscle to get the brackets straightened back out. Looks like a nice runner. More pics!

 

Terry, you mention the mounting brackets are easy to replace, not bend. So this is something i can buy a replacement part for and bolt everything right back into place? If thats the case and it will all align properly without any other work then i should have nothing to worry about. Please correct me if i misinterpreted that.

And badger, unfortunately from the pictures it looks like both front and rear bumpers are damaged. But i always keep a bfh not too far away for situations like that!
