Truck is skipping
I got a 1986 toyota pickup and it's got a bad skip to it. I've already changed the spark plugs twice now and also changed the fuel filter. Anybody got any suggestions what I should do next?

Have you pulled the distributor cap and had a look in there? Check for spark at all your wires? Could also check the ignition coil.
Might be a long shot, but after working on my 22RE one night one of the injectors came unplugged. Always a chance!

Is it ticking like valves or ticking like you have an electrical short/arc somewhere? I had a bad plug wire that was arcing. It also caused the same symptoms. Change your plug wires.

Sounds like an ignition issue, are you positive it's the valves?
Recently replaced my wires and they didn't make a full connection with the cap for some reason. I took a flathead and bent the little tabs on the wires (cap end) out about 1mm which gave them more grip on the cap. A slight bit of dielectric grease and no problems since.
Also check the firing order, make sure you haven't hooked up the wires out of order.

(Update on the situation) so we cut in front of the cat did not help the problem gave it some more power though. We did a compression test on it tonight and found out 3 out 4 have low pressure two of them have 40 and one 60. So I'm guessing it's time for a rebuild or new engine?

Either its blown a head gasket or you have a valve issue. Its rare for a engine to go from running good to running bad in a day and it be low compression due to wear and tear on the pistons/rings.
