Okay I'm sure this has been covered somewhere, but I could not find anything.....here is the jist of the situation:
I overhauled the transmission (flush+filter+solenoids), before the overhaul it was stuck in a higher gear. After the overhaul it shifts through 1st, 2nd, 4th and o.d no problem and smooth as butter, I might add.... But when it shifts out of second, going to a higher gear it double shifts...? Even with o.d off. I can feel it shift, then shift again a split second afterward, when it downshifts it goes straight to second. Is my 3rd gear no good or do these transmissions only have 3 gears? It is a a340h (4x4) and I did not replace the solenoid in the TC as 4L works fine......thanks in advanced p.s. my 3.slow runs like crap but that's a whole other thread lol

 

Its a 4 speed, so 4th is the OD gear. Sounds to me like something still isnt right. Might be time for a full rebuild or perhaps at least have a qualified trans shop take a look.

 

The strange thing is... I'm pretty sure that the 3rd gear worked before the overhaul....? Maybe I just got a bad solenoid, they were the cheaper eBay option..Or maybe I'm going insane....which I think would be a perfect excuse to do a 3.4 swap.... (With tranny)

 

It does not shift past 2nd in 4L, is that normal?

 

In 4 low your not supposed to go over 20mph so I doubt it will ever shift out of 2nd.

 

Well thank you that is good news I am still baffled by third gear...I was driving it today and you can tell the jump from second to fourth, because it will be up by 4k rpm and drop below 2k when shifting out of second, so I'm pretty sure 3rd is not engaging, o guess it could be as simple as one of the solenoid clips came loose? Do the solenoids in the a340h control 3rd gear at all?

 

Try this: take off OD then it wont shift out of 3rd. Does it still shift funny?

 

I don't think that's correct.
In L4 it's supposed to shift through all gears but not into O/D.
You can't go too fast as it will over rev but you can certainly go faster than 20.
In 2cnd gear (L4) they say not to go over 21 mph. 1st gear (L4) 11 mph.

 

So am I supposed to disable o.d. while using 4L?

 

Doesn't matter, it won't use O/D in 4Low
