Will parts off an 86 22re fit an 87?

Hi guys, new to this forum and need some advice. I just bought an 86 EFI pickup a couple weeks ago and low and behold, yesterday got rear-ended at a stop light just my luck! It was my first car too .. I just turned 17. Anyway, truck will be totaled out. I'm not sure what insurance will give me yet (it was a 5-car pileup) so im waiting on another guys insurance).

I spotted a good deal on craigslist for an 87. It's missing it's rear-wheel drive. The guy said he had most the parts for it, just need to be put back in. The front-wheel drive works fine. My initial plan was to buy back my 86, save it as a parts truck and get this 87 which i can eventually get the rear wheel drive going. I know a guy who is an experienced mechanic who can help me with this. Here is a link to the add if this helps: http://skagit.craigslist.org/cto/4436091279.html

Anyway, trying to figure out would be the best rout to take ... advice would be great!

Apart from minor body parts like the grill, they are virtually identical. It's too bad to hear about your truck though...How totaled is your truck? If the frame is shot, it would work as a parts truck. If it isn't, maybe flatbed the truck?

Do you really want to have a truck you need to put together as your first truck or second as the case may be.

Just how bad is yours??

Being it is a 86 it does not take much damage to total one

Ask you insurance agent what the check will be for vs. buying your back for parts. If your truck was worth say a $4k check from your agency and they want $1200 to buy you old one back. So take 4000 less 1200 is $2800 to work with for your fix up/rebuild.
Depending on how your rig was totaled, banged up bed?, or tweaked frame? If its just the bed it might be a good idea to buy it back and put a new bed on it for a few hundred buck get the truck inspected and salvage the title. And you in your truck with a enough money to put a locker in the rear. Maybe?

Fight for your trucks value. Look up what similar trucks are going for on craigslist to give you an idea

I bought it for 2500 which i think i got a good deal on it. The seller was originally asking 3000. It had 30k on the engine rebuild..lots of similar toyota's around here go for 3000-3500

Yeah. Was headin to Winco. I live 3/4 mile up 72nd from 119th. Looked liked the van didn't even try to hit the brakes.

Funny thing I was wondering if the yota would be totaled out as I sat at the light.

I must have come up on it pretty early since I had to wait at the light for the ambulance, then the first SUV cop and then the second.

It looked like the rear of your truck got hit pretty good, didn't really see the front. If there is no frame damage I'd try and work with what ya got.
