clear my mind for me
Hello everyone, i've been lurking these forums for quite some time researching about a 3.4 swap and everytime i get to a thread and read it i end up being confused because lots of unrelated info slowly leaks in or they do things the confusing way.
i just want to ask, if i get a complete donor vehicle (2nd gen 4runner/ truck with a 5 speed and 3.0 v6) will i be able to swap everything over into my 22re(hg problems) 88 4runner w/5speed (excluding the 3.0 engine) without much fabrication? than i wanted to take the 3.4 out of a parts tacoma i have (it only has a engine and wires ) and fit it in, once again without much fabrication.
i need this info now because ive been driving my 89 mustang to work for 7 months and it went from having only 20,000 miles to 120,000 miles and its making me mad,

no it will not fit, the mounts are different, the tranny crossmember are different, the exhaust system is different. the battery tray is on the other side, the intake is on the other side...and many more are not the same... bottom line, not wroth it and too much work for a 3.0.. good luck.

The 3.4 is basically the same engine block as the 3.0. That is why the 3.0 to 3.4 swap works so well. You still have to swap the oil pan, dipstick tube, motor mounts, and either fab a new exhaust or have it built (there is a company that does this, check my sig). Even after all that, the air intake is different, battery needs swapped from one side to the other, and if using a manual trans., you have decisions to make with the clutch.
With any swap, you will have some fab work because you are taking what was designed and built in the factory to accommodate a certain set up and changing that to hold something different. Pretty much the only swap that doesn't require fab is a direct engine replacement.

I fail to see why you can`t pick up the information in the 3.4 swap section.Just read the ones on first generation 4runner swaps like your trying to do.
Some great write ups.

What did you find confusing??
