Thinking about picking up some 33 Super swampers. TSL Radials are allegedly supposed to be quiet on road. What's you guys' take on these tires? I had a buddy I was in the military with who ran them on his daily driver Samurai and he swore by em- just want to get a second (or third or forth or fifth) opinion.

Very good off-road Traction. Horrible road noise. Do not last 20,000 miles if driven on blacktop. They are real soft tires and wear out quick

I have some in a 36" bias ply.

around 20 psi, when I cruise down the highway at 100kmph it sounds like I'm in my dads airplane with the headset on. Its a constant steady drone. Conversation is impossible, it becomes a yelling match of "WHAT!?!" and "HUH?!?" back and foarth.

Corners in town are rough and you can feel the lugs slapping the pavement. It smooths out nicely once you hit a certain speed and only the center lugs are touching the pavement. On a positive note, they continue to blow my mind at where they will take me at 8 psi, and they put my girlfriend to sleep after 15min of highway every time so we don't have to yell. She thought my exhaust was loud. heck, with these tires you don't hear the exhaust, just a bit more of the turbo that is needed to turn the heavey buggers.

No idea how that will relate to your 33" radial but just something to keep in mind

 

how about this, I can tell when I slow down because the growling frequecy of the tires changes.

 

I had 33" TSL's on my Tundra and if anybody says that they are quiet then they are apparently deaf! My truck sounded like a damn prop plane flying down the road, but they were very soothing and tended to put my son to sleep in the back seat. Tread life was awful! Mine they completely wore out by 15,000 miles and the wear was completely uneven on the front - the center tread would get high spots after about 3,000 miles and you could feel them when you were rolling slowly to a stop. They had decent traction on DRY dirt, but absolutely sucked in the mud and snow since they caked up extremely easily. Now way in hell would I ever get some ever again.

 

mine started humming at 25MPH but I could go over 100MPH on them and even though they were like 70% when i bought them i still got over 20,000 miles out of them

all the above is true. i run 33s in bias and radial and find that the radials get alot more traction off road on all but deep mud. thats when i prefer the bias ply. both the radials and the bias wear fast and are very noisy so probably not a good chioce for a daily driver, more due to fast wear and high cost than the niose. its interesting to hear that so many of you find the noise soothing , i thought i was alone on that.

 

The best mud tire that I've ever had but I don't know about an everyday tire. They are a little noisy but a great all around tire.

 

Hey I have 31 tsl radials on my truck( 80% for 150 on craigslist, Im broke so they had to do) they go off road pretty good took them in sloppy wet clay hooked up alright, but Im welded in the rear. They are not loud going down the road, a lot quieter than a Kevlar, I cruise 60 and never notice.

 

I had 33s on my 94 DD. They are loud at hwy speeds, and suck on the ice.

But in the rocks/mud/sand/dirt they rock. If I aired them down they would do even better.

They do wear quickly on the road.
