94 Pickup Power Mirror Glass Repair?

The glass mirror on the driver side wobbles or vibrates and drives my crazy. Any way to repair the guts inside? Or do I have to buy a replacement?

Thanks.

Toyota only sells gaskets, the mirrors themselves, and whole units it looks like, under the audio-entertainment-electronics section of parts.

I suppose you could disassemble adn inspect, but your call... Figuring out what's wrong will help you to fix.

The mirror is attached to the power unit, and the unit "hangs" from the shell on two tabs. The unit is tightened against those tabs by a a screw visible from the underside of the mirror.

If that screw gets loose, the mirror will wobble. But wait! More likely, the screw was OVER-tightened, and broke one (or both) of the composite (plastic) hangers on the power unit. Trying to tighten the screw will only make it worse (by breaking the other tab).

To find out, carefully loosen the screw until you can lift out the power unit and mirror, and take a look. On mine, the break was recent (collision) enough the all the parts were still inside the shell, and I was able to repair the hangers with JBWeld.

This is a fussy task; if you use too much JBWeld you'll just close up the gap in the hangers. Remember that epoxy does not stick to LDPE plastic, and fabricate the appropriate piece from scrap plastic so that you can clamp it all together without closing up the gap.

Like RSR, I found that all I could buy was an entire unit, and they're not cheap. You might have to ultimately consider replacing it with a manual mirror.

Good luck, and let us know what you find.
