sunroof= no map light switch?

I just realized that my 95 4runner with a sunroof does not have the switch to turn the map lights on when the door is open. I also have a '94 that does not have a sunroof. It does have this switch.

Can anybody confirm that models with a sunroof didn't get this switch? I guess the issue would be a lack of room to route wires because of the sunroof?

When I open my door the dome light comes on. When I work the switches, the map lights come on. I not aware (I have the sun roof) of any switch that couples the map lights to the dome light. (The map lights aren't THAT close to the sunroof, so room for wires couldn't possibly be an issue. The map lights have power wires; you're just talking about an additional wire to bypass the map light switch.)

Or, I have no idea what you're talking about. Take a picture.

He's referring to a switch that allows you to select whether or not the map lights come on when you open the door. My '94 with sun-roof does have this switch. It's right between the two map light switches. I would guess it's more a matter of which trim package you have. Mine is the SR5 leather seat version, so it's probably the top of the line trim package. (I didn't buy it new, so I don't know for sure. I did buy it from a doctor, however.)

^ That's what I wanted to hear. I also have SR5 and leather, but I do not have that switch... Mine's a '95, however. Wonder if it's a '94 vs '95 thing? I'm going to try to pull mine out and see if I have a "switched ground" under there and swap the two. It's night and day difference with those map lights at night time.

Looks like you need to hit up the junkyard! Would be an easy install, it should not require any additional wiring.

Just wanted to update this... I had no "door open, map lights come on" switch on my loaded 4runner. I got a unit with a switch from the pick n pull. Swapped units, and it works perfectly. Doors open, map lights come on. No additional wiring like ^ this guy said. Just wanted to give future searchers some resolution.

Scope, you gotta do this man, it's really such a unbelievable difference at night.

Put some 12x LED's in there like I did and it'll be really bright! I can see every corner of my cab with those things.

I would love to, but every time I read about LEDs they are crappy and burn out after a short while. My incandescent are probably still original! What brand do you recommend?

Now on my 92 4Runner SR5 I have the map light switch and a sun roof

Since I keep the switch turned off it is not really important

I bought these:

Amazon.com: 2pcs 31mm 12-SMD 1.25" 12V Festoon Dome Light LED Bulbs + STICKER DE3175 DE3022 DE3021 3175 - White: Automotive Amazon.com: 2pcs 31mm 12-SMD 1.25" 12V Festoon Dome Light LED Bulbs + STICKER DE3175 DE3022 DE3021 3175 - White: Automotive

LED's last longer than regular lightbulbs and use less energy (meaning if you leave the light on it'll take much longer to kill your battery... saved my bacon once).
