1992 4runner is having window problems the passenger window won't roll down I can take the motor apart and lower the window by hand and the switch will roll it up. My battery Meter on the dash goes down when I roll it up but doesn't move when I push it down and my driver side switch doesn't do anything. I assume its a relay? Anybody got any ideas

 

Take apart the switch itself and clean the hell out of it. Even if it looks clean clean it. I cant remember the name of the grease to use but i think it diode something or other. Put a tiny bit on the contacts.

You can try to "clean the hell out" of both switches (the power for the RH window goes through both switches; one has to maintain contact without being depressed, the other has to make contact when it is depressed), but you don't know which switch to look at, and you won't know if you made it better or worse or nothing.

So just follow the manual and test the switches with a multimeter. When you know exactly the problem area, then you can try cleaning. At least you know you won't be wrecking the good switch.

 

Well I've switched the driver switches with one I know that works and still nothing so I know it's not that switch panel

 

So why did you ask?

Are you not using a multimeter to diagnose this electrical problem? You may disagree, but blindly replacing electrical components on the hope that the new one will solve the problem is a fool's errand. Even if the "new" one actually does work, you still have every switch, every wire, every connection all the way back through the fuse panel to worry about. That's a lot of parts to replace, when 2 minutes of work with a multimeter will tell you exactly where the problem is.

 

I asked because that's the purpose of this forum, I used my buddies switch panel just to see and no I haven't had a chance to use a meter and test it just trying to get an idea so when I get a chance ill know where to begin
