1990 Runner V6 Fan Shroud?
I have a 1990 Runner V6 and just notices I don't have a fan shroud. Everything I am finding on line is 1 piece and 2 piece. Can anyone tell me if I need a 1 or 2 piece for this year. Thanks you Justin

I have a 90 4runner,v6 and I don't even have a fan shroud. It doesn't run any hotter than normal. So feel confident that you could run w/out it. But then again, maybe Im just getting lucky. I do have a brand spankin new radiator as well.

I actually just shredded my fan shroud into little pieces like a month ago...I was climbing some pretty crazy hills and was bouncing everywhere and found pieces of my fan shroud all over the ground, but my fan is still good...just some scratches on it but its ok. I kind of told myself I don't need another one so I never got one...oh well.

I would suggest you run a shroud. The v6 doesnt like to be overheated, cook it once and you're most likely to pop a headgasket shortly.
I ran without one for a year or so, but for the price of a used shroud ($25 or less), it aint worth running without one.

i havent ran a shroud after my body lift. the reason is that i think it was stolen (left in it the front yard). but it should be too bad if your driving on the road. but my buddy with a f150, his truck almost overheated while wheeling when he got stuck with mall terrains

I think it more or less depends on what kind of climate you're running it in. I got one just because I was looking at getting as much cooling power as I could. Here in the desert I think it'd be better to have one, but if you live up north were it doesn't get much over 90 I don't think it's as necessary, but you might want to run one any way. I got mine from Rockauto.com for about $20, so it wasn't a very big deal anyway.

My '91 came with a 2 piece shroud. I had to remove the lower piece/half after my bodylift. My temps haven't changed, running 'bout a 1/4" from the half way mark on the gauge.

Trust me, If you live in the heat you NEED a shroud! I wouldn't ever run without one no matter what. Without it you won't be pulling very much air through the radiator at an idle.

Ok guys Im in Bakersfield, CA and it get hot here. So back to the question 1 piece or 2 piece. I have he 1990 and its hard to find parts for it. It seem like everything I buy that says 1990-1995 does not fit correct. So please help on the 1 piece or 2 piece. Thanks Justin

Or send a PM to DeathCougar. He works at Nix99, a Toyota/Lexus wrecking yard here is Wa state. Josh is a good dude, and very knowledgeable. There's a link in my sig for Nix.
