Heater coolant valve?

Heater coolant valve?
Okay so if I'm right the heater core is heated by coolant from the radiator right? There's a valve that controls the flow of it on my 1980 Pickup that was connected to the heater control panel. Problem is I dont know if it actually works or not, and it is leaking coolant really bad. I was wondering what i could use to fix this? There is no compressor in my truck so I have no air but I dont care really. I could make it so that no matter what the heat is on but I'm not sure how this valve is supposed to work and what to put in its place.
Has anyone else had trouble with this or replaced theirs?

It allows coolant heated by the engine to circulate through the heater core. It is operated by a cable from your heater control. Open or closed.
You need to replace it with new or used if you want to have a heater. Or you can just eliminate the heater and lines.

Yeah somebody just bypassed mine. So there's always heat flowing through there. What you can do, is put an in-line shutoff valve in the side that brings coolant into the cab. Just turn the valve to closed when the weather gets warm.
You will feel the heat coming off the heater core all summer if you don't do that.
Or you can fix it back to original condition. I'd say dealership, maybe Rock Auto, or any auto parts store should have that stuff.

in my opinion do not just eliminate it entirely mine was stuck open last summer at first it was ok i didn't mind but when mid summer hit it was awful at least make a valve so you just have to open the hood to turn it on mind you i live in Maine so a really hot day is 90 and the last thing you want is the heat from the heater core on you when your trying to cool off with the windows down and if it raining out forget it nothing but hot air

I have this same valve which is leaking. Does anyone know of a part number for this valve? I have only been able to find used ones on ebay, hoping to get a new one. Has anyone tried to rebuild these?
