Got a 1982 , now the fun beings

Things I need to do first is find someone in the pinellas / Tampa area to help me rebuild the engine on the cheap, if I can't find that , its getting a Z06 engine out of my neighbors car who is out of the country for a few months.

Next would be clean up some wagon wheels I have laying around, if they don't clean up well , I'm going with 20" spinners or some triple gold Dayton's.

Bed needs to be replaced hoping to find a fiberglass bed , shackle lift is coming off, going with a 2" body lift.

After that , Ac needs a compressor and dryer, who knows what else

I'll post progress photos as she comes along

I can't picture little tiny gold Dayton's wrapped into some 33" bfg's , what a trend setter I would be, without the trend of course.

I wonder if my neighbor would notice the performance differences in his corvette going from the z06 engine to the 22r that needs rebuild ?, he would proabaly realize what had taken place first time I rolled out the drive way

Any body know anybody in the Tampa area that needs a 1982 frame ? , it's free , but located in the lake wales area , I'm going to pick parts off of it this coming weekend , there might even be some other parts I don't want or need. I also have the title to it if that could help someone get something on the road that doesn't have a title, maybe snatch the vin stuff ? . Just thought I would offer , shame to see any gen 1 parts go to the scrap yard. There is not axles , engine or tranny , but there could be other small linkage , and interior parts. I'm told it had a bed from a different truck on it , a pup I think also Let me know

So the truck finally made it home after over heating a few weeks ago when I brought it.

It try's to start , but turns to a dead battery sound pretty quick , checked the battery and starter both seem fine, volts go from 12 drop to 8 while the key is turned , then back to 12 after I let off te key. I might take the battery and starter down to have the checked , but it's the same sound it made when the AAA guy hooked up his jumper pack , I forget how many starting amps that thing had , but he said it was like 3 big ass batteries in one.

I'm going to drain the radiator and oil and check them out , then see what test I can do without the engine running.

I was able to move the engine pulley , the one on the bottom with a short socket , so that's good , I think ?

Anyone know a good shop or person for 22r's in the Pinellas fl area , I would like to have someone in mind in case I'm unable to get this heap rolling again.

Strange it started ok before over heating , now it seems to have a problem starting.

battery swap?

Maybe the battery is toast. 8V cranking!? It should be at least 13V resting (near 14V running/charging), maybe 10 cranking? Have you tried swapping out the battery (get it out of the circuit, in case it is sucking power from a jump).

If that doesn't really help, then maybe the starter is the culprit. A battery swap (and then jump it) would be a quick way to rule out the battery.

It's not a step side , it's not in very good shape either. I'm not sure if that stuff is still in that guys yard , I would guess it is . I would be interested in talking with Chris. It would probably be a few weeks before I can do anything with the gen 1 , I definitely want to get it running though

Thanks

Ok so , all new glass and glass trim is priced, paint body work is priced.

I'm going with a 350 chevy motor , I know that sounds like a bad idea , but I had the chance to drive a 83 with one , I can't put 1700.00 into a 4 banger after feeling that thing launch running 33's.

I' currently have my focus on plastic trim parts , I found a clean chrome bumper , but grill ect are proving hard to find in perfect condition. I want this thing to look good , factory color paint , all new exterior crap ect

Has anyone tried JC Whitney grill and trim ? Pictures ? Google couldn't find any real reviews , I'm not expecting them to be OEM nice , just can't even find a decent picture installed of the actual product.

I guess for 40.00 I could change it out every 4 years ;0)
