hey guys I got an '84. went to work this morning flipped on my lights and only the headlights came on. the dash and tail lights stayed off. the tail lights only work when I hit the brakes. the bottom seals on my windshield are old and corroded I believe they are letting water in through the dash. any one ever run into this? any help would be greatly appreciated as I drive to and from work in the dark.

 

Did you ever find an answer for this as I have the same situation. Seems to be no juice to the fuse that controls the taillights. I am assuming the same circuit is for dash lights.
Hoping for an easy answer to all this. Starting to think about the switch but thinking there should be juice at the fuse if it was the switch.

There is a "tail" fuse in the drivers kick fuse panel. Its probably blown. Usually that is caused by a short. Its dash, tail, front parking lights & license plate lights as well I think. I would check for moisture intrusion in those housings first as its easy. Have also heard of a loose bulb in a socket causing a short, but have never seem it personally. A multimeter is almost always necessary to troubleshoot this type of problem. A cheap harbor freight one is more than sufficient for this type of work.

THANKS guys for the link. Gives me something to go on.
My fuses are good so I got to start working my way through things. Last year my headlights started coming on by themselves. After much unsuccessful looking I removed the cowling on the steering column and blew out the whole area with air compressor. Lots of gunk came out and my lights stopped coming on. Something was shorting out in there. I don't want to remove the wheel, but may try blowing out again.
So great to have so much knowledge and experience on this Forum.

So thanks to the helpful information I got my problem solved. The taillight relay was clicking and so dismissed it as the problem. But later when using a test light saw there was juice going in but nothing coming out. A new relay fixed the problem.
