This is not asking what is better. This is asking you, yotatech, what would you do in my situation? I have an 82 longbed, my plans are 33 or 35s, slight (3"), lift rear locker and of course, armor. I currently have a running 22r but it needs rebuilt, my plans for that were to rebuild it with power in mind (cam, fresh rebuild, full head job, intake, and 32/36 weber.) I have recently come across a 22re, 62000 original miles. My question is to you, would you swap in the 22re or rebuild the 22r? I'm not a "hardcore" off roader nor will this truck be a dd. If I did do the swap, maybe a turbo would be in the future, as I am a diesel mechanic and I know FI/turbo much better than I know a carb setup, but a carb setup with a slight bore and some performance mods is much easier to make work. I'm not looking for a race truck, just looking for a little more hp. What would you do?

or you can just do a 3.4 swap . i have a 1995 toyota t100 sr5 5 speed im parting out, do to a blown rear end(still drives though just makes noise). the truck itself has 270xxx miles on it. the motor runs incredible and does not burn or leak oil. the r150f tranny has only 60xxx miles on a rebuild. you can buy the motor and the whole wire harness for 400 bucks. orrr you can just buy the whole truck for $800. the only thing i would like off the truck is the power window wireharness. im located in new haven ct area let me know!

Personally, I would put in an EFI engine, whether its an 22RE, or a 2RZ/3RZ. Either of these will produce more power and better MPG. You can do quite a bit for power add-ons, as I am sure you know. These engines can be turbo'ed but will require a lot of work to get any worthwhile performance (for the money). I honestly dont think they NEED turbos. My stock (rebuilt) 22re in my heavy, lifted, under-geared '95 4Runner has PLENTY of power to comfortably cruise around, pull the 7-8% grades on the highways, and still deliver 22-24 mpg hwy
