3.4 or 22RE Fuel Pump?

After searching, I know I can run my stock 88 22RE fuel pump. It seems plenty of people have no problems but, a few do.

Since I have the tank, pump, lines, and wiring from my 99 4Runner donor. Would it be worth it to adapt the 3.4 pump to fit my exsisting fuel tank?

I haven't compared the tanks side by side so not sure if it would even fit. I was thinking I could cut the mounting flange out of the 4Runner tank and weld it to my exsisting tank.

Worth the effort or wasting my time?

This swap would not work. The 3.4 tank is on the drivers side of the vehicle, the 3.0 tank is on the pass side of the vehicle. Everything is completely backwards.

I am running a 3.4 with a stock 1987 Fuel pump. Not one issue. Toyota basically uses the same fuel pump throughout the 22RE, 3VZE, and 5VZE run. Performance differences are negligible at best, but the connectors and mounts differ greatly.

My opinion: Waste of time.

P.s. Welding on used fuel tank=kaboom

Mine runs out of fuel above 4k(factory 3.0), I'd put the 3.4 pump in it.

I did a 22RE to 5VZ swap and I did not change a thing with the fuel tank/pump. This was three years ago and I have not had a problem at all.

92+ 3.0 and 95+ 3.4 use the EXACT same fuel pump. Same part number from toyota.

Per Toyota, the same fuel pump used in the following applications:

92-02 4Runner (22RE, 3VZE, 3RZFE, AND 5VZFE)
92-95 Paseo
94-95 Previa
93-98 T100 (2.7, 3.0 AND 3.4)
91-94 Tercel
92-95 Truck (22RE AND 3.0)

So the 3.0 and the 3.4 use the same pump. If you are "running out of fuel" at 4k rpm, you have a problem with your setup. My 87 22RE pump does fine all the way into redline.

I wasn't going to use the 4Runner tank. I was thinking of welding the mounting flange to my 88 tank so I could put the 3.4 pump in. IF it would even fit.

I have welded on used tanks before after a thorough flush, a water fill and or inert gas purge.

I haven't compared the two pumps side by side yet but, I have seen pics that look like the 3.4 pump is larger.

I parting out my donor, just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be sorry I sold the pump and tank.

Thanks for the replies! Sounds like it's not necessary or worth the work.

If you plan to boost you'll need to upgrade anyways. Otherwise its fine for NA application.
