head to header bolt holes stripped

so im going to start on how i got this point a friend and I decided one day to fix the blown head gasket on my '86 22re and after we did that done and we were bolting the headers back up I made a rookie mistake since this was my first head gasket replacement and over-tightened the nuts on some of the studs stripping them out. Now I know that I either am going to have to replace the head or drill and tap the holes on the head bigger. I'm just not sure what would be the best thing to do mostly price wise. Thanks for any help.

You also could try re tapping the hole depending how bad you messed out the threads.

Helicoil. Easy to do on the truck if you grab a right-angle drill attachment and have a friend to help you drill straight.

There are quite a few different thread inserts Helicoil was one of the first and the name most well known.

i just got done doing a helicoil in mine for the same situation. it was pretty easy. you just need a steady hand. only bad thing about helicoils is that if you just need to do one, its still gonna cost you like 60$ for the kit.
