Big Falls 2-8-04

Well went out to Big Falls today along with my friend in a Tacoma. Didn't make it out there yesterday, but maybe we can meet up out there or to Pozo sometime. I have never been out there before, but was a great time. While we were stopped a Jeep passed by us. I minute later I see the kid waving and the Jeep is stuck up to the door in what I think is the last big puddle. Water was filling most of the interior. I think his engine is done considering a lot of water came out of the sparkplug holes and wouldn't start after that. The engine wouldn't really turn over for more than a second. It was a stock Jeep and he fell in a big rut in the puddle. I felt sorry for him and luckily some guy had tie downs, so we were able to get him out. Anyway here are some pics, but no action shots.

ouch! Was he alone? That'd be mistake number one.

I just went out to a trail with some other yotatechies ("Colorado: dinner and some trails" thread) and we had to turn around on one of the hills because the snow was stopping us dead in our tracks. Only two trucks made it, one had a locker and chains, the other had luck, momentum, and experience. As we are turning around, a jeep with chains and open diffs was launching up the road, alone... I can only imagine his luck.

Good looking trucks too! Who owns the red truck? It looks awesome with those wheels and the color.

Thanks, the red trucks mine and the silver Tacoma is my friends. The Jeep was alone and never went out there, so they didn't know what to expect.

I tend to avoid those mud puddles. They usually stink really bad.

Actually it didn't smell at all, but probably because it just formed from the rain we got. In a few weeks or so I bet it will.

ouch! we were out there on the 7th and saw some of those nasty puddles.. i avoided most of them, but some of the other guys had enough lift to be ok going through them. TacoBell even had a nice romp at one of those puddles coming back.. the water even went over his hood, but luckily nothing like that happened.. here's a pic:

big falls is awesome though.. i'm down for going out again sometime, just let me know.

Yeah I went through all of the puddles up to the one were the Jeep was stuck. I was just cautious and went through them slow. I'm sure others would be down to go out there again sometime too.

Yep, I bet that was the same puddle that went over my hood...LOL. It was deceptively deep. I had been out there about 2 weeks earlier and it was there, but only about a foot deep. I can't wait to get out there again!

I love that pic! I wish you had taken it about 2 seconds faster so it actually showed my headlights underwater! The only bad thing that happened from that was all the time it took to wash my truck the next day, I didn't even have any water get in my truck! Weeeeeeee!

Just wondering if you guys are running extended diff breathers? I know the Tacos come with them in the front, but my truck doesn't have either. I don't think the water got over the breathers, but I'm probably going to make some soon.

I just got the parts yesterday from my buddy to do the rear breather extension. It's really simple to do, and the part was only a couple bucks from Toyota. It should be done by the next wheeling trip.

I don't have the part #, I'll try to get it from Chris. It was on the bad the part came in, but I tossed it. As for the tubing, I am just going to get some from our shop here in SM, and yes, it will run up to the gas cap, just like Chris did to his.
