tick tick tick tick tick tick tick

I just picked up a 2007 4Runner SR5 with the 4.0 with 77k miles on it and it runs like a champ. My first V6 woohoo! Previously I had a 22RE in a 94 P/U and currently am working on a 3RZ-FE for my 99 4Runner.

I'm a little nervous though, because when i lift the hood, i can hear a faint ticking sound coming from the engine.

What could be making this sound? Please tell me everything is going to be ok.

Thanks, dudes.

Maybe a manifold leak. I have one too. At first you could only hear it when cold as it would self seal when the engine warmed up. But now, I can hear it all the time.

it seams to quiet down after she's been running, yes. what steps can be taken to prevent more leakage? Should I take it back to the dealership? The kooky salesman was trying to tell me it was just lifters so he could get me off the lot I think. I have 5 days to back out of the deal. I'm really digging the ride though. I have Friday off, I can take it my mechanic then, but I just wanted to see what you guys thought.

Sorry, I can't help you there. I just bought my 2006 about a month ago. It wasn't leaking when I bought it, but started just afterwards. What luck! I am waiting to see what headers are available for mine, so that if I have to change the manifold, I'll put on headers instead. But I have the V8 and haven't found headers yet.

That's a normal sound for the V6 (valve tick). Manifold issues are usually a v-8 thing. Have you been over to Toyota-4runner.org? Lots more info on the 4th gens over there.

You should have some sort of warrenty with it unless it was "as-is'. if you bought it from a dealership, take it back and have them look at it.
