First post/ First yota
Hey guys first post, loooks like a good place to find info here! I waws looking for some help. I recently got an 84 4x4 pickup, and today where the engine meets the transfer case i noticed some gear oil. I then notice that 3 bolts were extremely loose, so i went ahead and tightened them. My question is how would i chane the fluid in the transfer case? Is there an inlet on the top? Sorry for the newb question. Any help would be much obliged!

do you mean the tranny to transfer case or engine to transmission?
sounds like your talking about the transfer case to transmission, so i'll give ya advice for that.
for the transfer case there is a drain at the bottum. on the rear half of it . just behind where the front driveshaft is.
there is a fill plug on the back of it around where the rear driveshaft bolts on.
it taked around 2 litres. of gear oil.
since the bolts where loose, i would remove the transfer case and re seal the gasket, but thats just me. you maybe ok with just tightening them up.
I would also check the trans level, if the seal between the trans and transfer case is no good, the trans oil can make its way into the t case, or leak out where you had a leak.
the trans fill plug is on the driver side of the trans, roughly in the middle.
the drain is on the bottum. i believe you need a 21 mm wrench or socket for them.
if the leak was between engine and trans, you input seal or gasket is leaking and you need to remove the trans and have it fixed.

Thank you ToyQuad! You are correct. I have a leak at the bottom of the seal where the engine meets the transmission. I tightened the bolt last night, but the leak is still present so it looks like ill need to replace the seal. Fortunately the seal between the tranny and transfercase is ok and has no leak. But i noticed today that i do have a leak at the rear seal of the transfercase just before where it meets the rear driveshaft.

If you're leaking out of the back of the transfer case, it might be a good idea to make sure your output flange is tight. Sometimes they get loose. Un-bolt the driveshaft (4 bolts, take all of 5 minutes), and see if you can wiggle the flange around.
As for filling the transfer case, I find it a lot easier to just remove the shifter and dump fluid in the top.
