Hi folks, new member to yotatech, but long time yota owner. I have 92 toyota with a 3.0 v6, all of a sudden it started cranking for about 15 to 20 seconds before it would fire. Once started if i shut it off and try to restart it fires fine. Thought maybe had a fuel line leaking, checked them all were fine. Also checked for vacuum leaks and found none. If it sits for 10 to 20 mins it cranks like that again. Going out now to have wife crank it and check spark, any direction you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated!!

 

Fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump is likely letting the pressure drop off over time if there are no leaks in hoses/lines.

Also, grab a copy of the FSM from the link in my sig and go through the diagnostics.

 

Tried another regulator off of another 3.0 i had in the garage, and made no difference. Going to make up an adapter to put my fuel pressure gauge inline to see if pressure is for sure bleeding off. Once it starts it does stumble for a minute, then clears up and runs like a champ.

 

having a fuel pressure gauge is a "good thing," but a cobbled adapter is pretty damned dangerous. I know you'll be careful, but why don't you first try jumpering FP to B+ for 5 seconds, then crank it. If it starts, that tells you that you either have a leaky FPR or a leaking back-check in the fuel pump (assuming you don't have puddles of fuel on the garage floor).

 

Have you changed the fuel filter? Looked at the plugs? Wires?


Id start with basic stuff first.
