95 4 Runner 3.0 to 4.5 Engine swap?

I have a '95 4Runner with a 3.0 and 112,000 miles on it. When it gets below 40 degrees out it surges when I come to a stop. I checked the vacuum lines and replaced the MAF and no luck. Toyota and the local shops don't even know why. I can get a 4.5 for 200.00 but I don't hear too much about that size motor. Anyone know if this would be a good swap or if it's even possible? Any help would be appreciated.

A little weird to me 112,000 miles and you want to change motors. Not the easiest swap. Download FSM
www.ncttora.com/fsm/

Check your TPS. MAF, You should have a VAFM.

It's a 1FZFE from a Land Cruiser. I had the 4 Runner for 3 years and had to replace head gasket and every winter I go thru twice as much gas from the idle surging when I come to stops. Not too familiar with engine swaps and i could get this motor. Guess I should stick with something thats tried and true for it.

Way too much trouble on such a swap IMO.

Look at the 3.4 swap section.
