just wondering...

i think my truck is an anomaly.... (1988 Pickup shortbed)

my truck can -easily- hit 70 - 75 mph without even trying. it accelerates uphill in 5th gear. i don't need to downshift on an uphill...depending on grade mostly. i hit 75mph in 5th at 3000 (which probably indicates a stock gear ratio).

i have no problems outrunning other people on the highway, and my truck twists on takeoffs from red lights.

the PO said he had gone through the motor after a headgasket blow, and rebuilt the engine. just wanting to know how normal my engine is for a 22RE...just gauging my engine with other 22RE owners here...

(i have stock 225 75/15 tires btw.)

reason why i am asking, is because i plan on long tubes and a cam for my motor...kinda wanting to know if the PO actually has done something to the engine.

Looked at your profile and dont see where you have a 2 or 4 wheel drive. Sounds like a 2 wheel and they will go for a 4 cylinder.

A fresh 22RE built stock will do this easily. Mine did.
Most here are bitching about a motor with 250k plus on it.

i have a 91 2wd auto with 86000 that will hit 90mph like its nobodys business, but then i have a 87 4wd 5speed with 164000 that wont go more than 45 up a slight grade in 3rd or 4th gear. i have no idea. i think they all just have a personality. haha. i can also bring my front tires of the ground about 3-4inches by pumping the gas like 2-3 times in my 4x4 and it has 33s

And most people are running larger than stock tires on stock gears, or are just under-geared.

Yep that too!

My 85 on 4.88s with fresh 22RE would accelerate uphill in 5th with 37s easy.

Sounds normal. I can kinda accelerate up a decent grade in 5th in my Truggy. Which is as aerodynamic as a brick on 37s. 5.29. Carbureted. I say kinda because it depends on the weather. ;-p

Cruising speed is 68mph.

that would be it then... it confirms what i heard that the PO did in fact rebuild the engine 90,000 miles ago...
