Please evaluate this rig ... good deal or pass?

Here is the link to the CL ad:

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/3240536546.html

Highlights are:

Rear ARB
5.29 gears turning 35" BF M/T
Newer 22re with 30,000 on it
New Smitybilt wench
Rare Canback cover

The truck looks bitchin', I checked it out today, took a test ride . The road manners were a little harsher than I'm used to , no power steering , no comfort things like AC or extra cab. I'm coming from a daily driver 93' Toyota V6 , pretty much stock with a rear locker on 31's, but it did everything I asked it to.

I guess my question is : I offered 6k , he might take it . Does that sound reasonable? I see a SAS in the future as I get into crawling and tougher trails , but just not sure about the new rig as a DD . Definitely don't want any buyers remorse, 6k is a lot on my teachers salary .

Thoughts , opinion , slander , and suggestions are very much welcome .

Thanks , Vincent

You can't base your experience on the other side of the country as the standard for the rest of us.
That said, is the hood black on it? I would be weary of accidents although it states there is none, one clue is that the paint on the rear of the truck is oxidized but nothing on the front.
I would ask for receipts on the engine and would also see about taking it to get a pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic or one with experience with these pickups.
It does have a 2 inch body lift, not a big deal if quality parts were used.
If everything checks out and you feel that it is worth the price, then get it, I don't think you will get a consistent 20 MPG that he claims.

Hood is gray like the rest of the truck , he has receipts for engine work and ARB install .

I have bought several vehicles / motorcycles on CL , and I am getting the 'honest' vibe from him . I wish he would take 5k ...

Around here , a SAS with 5.29 gears and perhaps an ARB is gonna run me at least an additional 4k ...

Red face

It all comes down to what you want and can afford.

I think you can do much better then this one.

What kind of skills do you have ?? Can you build just what you want?

If not then look for one that all ready has the SAS done and is just the way you want.

If you can build your own unless the work was very good quality you will be redoing things or just plain unhappy.

It comes down to making your own call.

Thanks for all the advice . I don't have the equipment or skills to SAS . I think I am going to try to find a truck that closest fits what I want in the end ...

Yeah, for the money you're looking at spending, you'll find one that's already done.

thats prob the best choice in the end, you say you dont have the skills, equiptment can be purchased and skills can be learned, i wouldnt doubt your self on sas, we have 16 and 17 years olds on here that can do it, such as myself not to bragg

Too much money. I'd say 4,500-5000 range. people need to learn that Single cabs are not worth as much as an ext cab, or 4Runner unless its got a ridiculous amount of money, time and fab into it. its just a normal truck with a bunch of bolt ons on it. if it was SAS'd i could see him getting $6000.
