'04 Sequoia with broken rear latch

I searched and nothing came back so I am asking openly. I have an '04 Sequoia with 140K miles. It's in excellent shape but the rear latch broke recently. I have the new latch but have not found the best resource to get started without busting clips loose etc...

Any suggestions or resources would be greatly appreciated.

Is it the latch or did the handle break?

Go to the dealer where you bought the new handle and ask them how to change it.

Thanks wabbit. The dealership where I bought the vehicle and the handle have changed hands 3 times since the date of purchase. They only "sell and service". "help and customer care" are not included.

If that is the answer I got the general manger would tote an ass chewing.

Pretty simple. Pull off the back hatch panel. Handle mechanism held on by a couple bolts on the back side I bet.

1) Remove the interior trim piece at the top of the door.

2) Remove the two interior trim pieces next to the window.

3) Remove the pull strap inside the back door.

4) Remove the large trim panel.

5) Remove the metal cover, held on by 7 screws and 3 push clips.

6) Roll the rear window down about 1/2". Remove 4 nuts holding the window regulator bracket.

7) Slide the regulator bracket assembly down a couple inches, by hand, to gain access to the handle.

8) Remove the 2 nuts holding the handle.

9) Disconnect the cable.

10) Disconnect the door lock mechanism.

11) Remove the license plate.

12) Remove the trim around the license plate. The plastic push clips may break.

13) The handle can now be removed. Reinstall in reverse order.
