Project Centercap

Project Centercap
So, I've had these centercaps that came with my truck when I bought it off of my brother. Truck was Bone stock years ago, with the silver 15x7 silver rims and Toyota centercaps in back and silver covers to go over the hubs up front

Thought it would look cool to be able to put the rear center caps on but with my black steel rock crawler rims they won't work. Center hole is slightly smaller as well as the rims are slightly thinner. So here's what I'm attempting.

First I had to cut off the little grippers that would normally hold it on.

Next, I drilled 3 holes in the centercaps so I could bolt some tabs that I cut out with my plasma cutter to the inside of the center cap.

Next I'm going to pull a rim off, fit the cap to the center hole, tack the tabs to the rim then finish weld them on. But that'll have to be later this weekend since I'm working some OT tomorrow, be late Saturday or Sunday.

Don't weld on your wheels, especially with the tires on them.

Thanks for the concern, but with the minor amount of welding it's going to take, basically just spot welds, I think I'll be ok. I'll deflate the tires out of an abundance of caution, but with just doing spot welds at the center of the rim not too concerned.

Got one side done, working on the other side now, but here's what it looks like. I think it looks great, just a little touch of Toyota retro.

Here's the backside of the wheel after welding and grinding flush.

The front side with the 3 tabs for the cap to screw onto.
