1982 22r 4x4 wont start without starting fluid

Hello everyone,

I can't start this rig without starting fluid. One little shot and fires right up and stays running. Once i shut it off and it sits it wont start again without a shot. Choke or accelerator pump? ....no

I would say just rebuild the carb and check the float level and you would be good........what does the fuel level in the sight glass look like after it sit a little while.

I would think that it would be evaporating or being pulled back into the tank which could be in the fuel pump.

Did the truck start doing it all the sudden or is this a new purchase?

But check the choke turn the key on push the pedal to the floor once and get out and look at the choke plate is it closed? if not crack your throttle by hand and push the choke plate closed and then let off the throttle does it stay? Now will it start? if not try holding your hand over the primary barrel of the carb to choke all the air off and have some one try to start it if it fires move your hand so you dont choke it out.

Next as far as a accel pump work the throttle by hand and look down the primary barrel and see if its squirting any thing out from the front or the barrel? if not that is your problem.

Sorry for such a late detailed check list but I just didnt have time the other day.

HOPE THIS HELPS!

I finally got my rig to the house and started working on it. After some good degreaser and carb cleaner she fired right up. If anyone has a vacuum schematic it would be greatly appreciated. Its unbelievable how many vacuum lines a 1982 has on it. I have a diaphram looking object just under the choke area that is missing a vacuum hose to it and I can not locate a hose laying around that is not connected to something.

that diaphram is used to idle the truck up when the a/c kicks on. if you are not running a/c dont worry about it I have mine plugged off at the moment. The hose should run over to the passenger fender well behind all that vacuum stuff that I no longer have sorry that is all I can help with other thatn it goes to a simple valve that has one inlet and one outlet shaped like an L and it has a plug ran to it.

Dont for get to WD40 all those linkages....LOL
