DHFHades' 88 4runner build

got this a while back, traded for a 90 Cherokee...has a blown head gasket so I am currently pulling the motor to do a full rebuild...this build is going to be slow since I am poor white trash

first thing I did was stereo install

the sub that is currently in it

interior gutted to run wires

and some door pods I made

pods installed

start of the tear down

and where I currently am

I am a bit further than this now, but not much...I will try to keep this as updated as possible...any input would be great

Nice audio work , the door pods are rad. Ever think of dithcing the 3.0 for the 3.4 ? May b worth it in the long run.

I actually have thought about doing a 3.4 swap...but cant afford it atm. and yes, the jeep to toyota switch was a difficult one, I love my cherokees, but this was worth more monetarily so I figured why not...plus I really like the removable top

made some good progress last night, had a midnight brain storm and ran with it.

this was the result of my hard work

this was my idea that just happened to work, had this chunk of chain in the shop

and this was how I stopped the cams from turning..passenger side

drivers side

strange things work sometimes

Next time for the install. If u have the valve cover off you can see where there's a spot to put a wench on the camshaft itself to keep it from turning when removing the cam bolt.

I was kind of wondering what those spots were for, I saw them and putting a wrench on them never crossed my mind...lol

lol they are for turning the cams and if needed to hold the cam in place. say you didnt remove the valve cover, theres a tool that fits into the cam to hold it in place. i got one for like 30$ a few years back. but im sure they have gone up. was a MAC tool

can I pull the head off without taking the cam off, and if I do pull the cam do I need to replace the bearings?
