Question Random popping noise when steering at full lock

I know what you're going to say: Grease the steering stops. But no. That's not it.

The problem occurs at and near full lock when turning right. You don't have to be against the stops for the noise to occur. Just near full lock. (I already greased the stops, btw. Also, the hubs are unlocked.) The popping noise is severe enough you can feel it in the floorboard with your feet. It sounds like something is binding up then snapping free. This has me stumped.

(FYI, pretty much the entire drive line, suspension, and steering is new (<10K miles).

Just a wild thought, but I wonder if it's the detroit locker in the back binding up and transmitting noise down the drive shaft (???).

could it maybe be body flex? when you turn the wheel the frame twists a little causing the body to eventually let go from the spot it was in resulting in the feeling you are having?

maybe check the control arms make sure they are tight?

Well, I crawled underneath and gave the u-joints a healthy dose of fresh grease. I also discovered there's more than 1 set of steering stops. I knew about the rear ones, but overlooked the front ones. I greased them all this time. Tomorrow, I'm going to check the rear diff oil level. We'll see what happens.

Are you certain it's not in 4 wheel drive?

Do you have a locking hubs?

Outer CV axle joint. (Click or pop) on turns. Usually rapid sounding.

Steering Stops + Lithium Grease = Quite time.
