Alaskanhusky's 1986 4x4 pickup Buildup Thread

Here's my rig as she sits now. Traded straight across for an older 400ex.
Has a spool(not welded) in the rear open front. Also came with a brand new set of wildcat mud tires for the front.

Build will be slow going at first but figured I would get some Pictures up to start it off.

Plan on going OD green where its yellow now, Maybe do an allpro style tube bed, Sliders on the sides and new bumpers front(with winch) and back. The Smitty's have some rust holes in them so they will have to go.

So here's the Engine compartment. Rig Runs great oil is everywhere.
I wanted to run it past ya'll and by the pics does anyone see anything out of place.
This is a 22re with a webber truck was originally a 22r so they
just swapped over the block I assume.
I know its leaking Oil from the front Most likely the timing cover.
Exhaust manifold is leaking quite bad. All little stuff i got to work on.
I just don't know whats supposed to be here and
whats not( with the webber and the swap to the other block).

Got it plated the other day took it out for a rip. Drives good 2 wheel drive with the spool goes anywhere. Need to get my front tires mounted so I can try out the 4x4 as the tires are mismatched right now. Needs a muffler its very loud right now and backfires when you shift. But its one fast little truck i'll tell you that.

Looks like you have the washers stacked up cause the body mount is missing.

New shoes test fit

Alaskanhusky's 1986 4x4 pickup Buildup Thread-jjo3t.jpg

Picked up 4 crappy rusty rims with 2 brand new (old) cooper discovery st's for 50 bucks pic is one test fitted on the front. Couldn't pass up and the truck is not a dd so the rusty rims and old brand new tires don't concern me to much. What would anyone suggest for anti rusting them. Wire wheel or sand blast and paint for just say screw it paint them for now and buy new ones when I can afford it?

You can take dish washing liquid, steel wool and some elbow grease to get them looking pretty good after that you can wax them to help protect them for a while.

if you sanded all the rust and everything off they have this wheel paint that I heard works good. Black would look good

They're going to be painted black. You don't see it in the pic but the rust is pretty bad flaking on the backside of them and completely rusted in the middle on the outside. I have access to a sandblaster so will be going that route and then rattle can flat black. Now to get it back on the road I need to get an alternator bracket or conversion kit for gm. As the previous owner didn't have a pivot bolt installed and torqued the hell out of the bolt on the adjustment bracket. When I loosen'd it to install a pivot bolt the bracket broke into pieces and can't seem to find a stock one anywhere.

Been gone for a while. Been looking everywhere for that alternator bracket an finally find a junk yard that has a truck of that era. Drive and hour to go see if it still even has the bracket have to walk a half mile to the far back corner of the yard where they keep the foreign rigs and no yota. Go back inside and the guy goes to figure out where the truck went. Turns out they were just about to load it into the crusher. If I had searched the yard another 5 min it would have been gone. Got the bracket an alternator and a fiberglass visor for 20 bucks out the door. Truck hadn't ran since october with crappy gas and everything she fired right up 3rd try gotta love that weber.
