85 Toy: Best Bang for the Buck Suspension??

Okay I'm in the race to get an 85' Runner. Hopefully I will have the loan by Friday and get the truck sometime next week. KNOCKING ON WOOD . But what I need to ask is a complete suspension set up question.

AllPro is having a sale and their spings are $199 for the front and $299 for the rear(i know they are back ordered and the wait is long, it's OKAY with me). I would be thinking about the 5" springs and some long travel shocks. Do you think that the All Pro springs are a good way to go(I don't want Orbit Eyes right now, that's too extream for me at this time)? I would like to have really really good flexing ability out of this. My main concern would be shocks, I know they limit droop more than springs would, what type of shocks would you do with this set-up?

Thanks in advance.

Best bang for the buck would be to move the rear springs up front and get a set of Chevies from the boneyard.

I've got the All Pro springs on my sas'd 87- good stuff. If I had it to do again, I'd get the 4" lift to lower the CG a bit.............

Shocks-

Just say NO to Rancho , pony up and get the 12" or 14" Bilstien 5150's-

I'm doin an sas on my rig and after extensive searching on POR I bought the A/P springs with Bilsteins in the rear and most likely Pro Comps up front till I can buy Bilsteins.

I was trying to get away without having to do any relocating of the shackled like I would with the Chevies and Rancho's. Do the APs just hook right up to the stock locations? I really wanted to not pay out the butt for Bilsteins but I guess that is what I'm gona end up doing. Just let me know about the shackle locations for the APs. Other than that I guess I'm going with AP 4" springs and Bils. all around. Thanks again guys, :rockband:

i think AP springs will bolt right up. i think with chevies, you just have to make a spring hanger and mount it forward a certain amount(i forgot what it was off the top of my head).

You mount the new hanger 11" forward of the stock hanger. For the rear shackle you can use a double shackle made from the stock Toy and Chevy shackles, or make a new shackle hanger and mount it a few inches behind the stock one and use a Toy or Chevy shackle.

Thanks guys, either way I know I'm not cut out for the Chevies right now. I have no idea how to do anything like what I'm being told I have to do for them. I'm going to make sure the APs are bolt on and go with them, and some Bilsteins. Speaking of Bils. where is a good place to find some 5100's cheep. I found some 5150s for $99.95 but I would liek to see the difference. Also has anyone really researched the difference in the two, I know one has a cross flow reservior but is it really that big of a difference in ride, handeling, and flex? Any input is great, thanks again.

The AP rear springs are longer than stock Yota springs. Either way your gonna have to weld new spring hangers or do some sort of fabbing.

Allpro does make stock length front and rear springs.

The difference between 5100s and 5150s is that you'll have a better ride at the end of a long trail run with the 5150s cuz they wont heat up as much. If you don't do long trail runs I'd get 5100s.

Either way Bilsteins and Allpro springs are the best combo for Toyotas for the $ spent! IMHO.

Sweet, thanks for the insight on the shocks, that is what I figured but I wasn't sure if there was something I might be missing.

As for the All Pro stock length springs, you can't get as much travel out of them as compared to the LT springs that require the relocation. I really want the droop, I wanna do it right and do it the first time. I still have 2,000 left over from my loan and want a really capable rig. Is there any real downside to relocating your shackels, I know the angle is a little off but nothing that would effect ride or trail quality right?
