Billythegoat's 1992 pickup Build-Up Thread
Hello all, I finally decided to start a build-up thread after having my pickup for 2 months now. I traded my 1989 pontiac firebird trans am for it and I'm very glad I did.
Its 1992 pickup 4x4 5 spd single cab with 187K miles. It runs pretty good but it burns quite a bit of oil and smokes until its warmed up. The PO said he did a complete rebuild with machine work but he said #3 cylinder had low compression which led him to believe the rings didn't set right. It doesn't bother me that much since it stops after its warms. I plan to get another engine thats proven and dropping it and fix this engine.
About 3 weeks ago I was driving and I saw my fuel level drop way too fast and could smell raw fuel, luckily I was close to home and my little truck didnt catch on fire.
It turned out injector #3 was leaking badly which I knew had a small leak but it wasn't that bad before. I was only going to replace the orings but then I thought, why not paint the plenum and valve cover. I wanted to send the injectors to get rebuilt but they seem fine and they all ohm'd within .1 of each other

The o-ring was pretty messed up.

I got an 'injector seal kit' at nap for 2 bucks each, the old intake and fuel rail seals were pretty much rock hard

I still need to go to the dealer and see if the got the crush washers on the fuel rail

I found a brush guard on Craigslist a few days ago and got it for $115, not sure if that's a good deal but I think it was.

I got into the painting spirit and decided I wanted to paint the wheels black along with the brush guard. I got duplicolor high performance wheel coating for the wheels and vht rollbar paint for the brush guard. I also got duplicolor engine aluminum for the plenum and valve cover. It's crazy how paint adds up

An '89 Firebird, huh? If it was a V8, then it was most likely the 305 version. Looks like you got the better end of the deal trading for the pickup! It looks to be fairly solid. I can't wait to see what it looks like after the painting is done. Definitely Subscribed. Welcome to Yotertech!

When you go to put the o-rings back in, make sure and lube them up with something. I didnt and knicked one and it leaked bad. A good way to get a fire going. Welcome to the site.

I'll probably use some oil

The skid plate and lower valence were in the bed when I got the truck and needed a bit of help so I bought another 2 cans of vht. I got everything painted up and I'm very pleased with this vht stuff. The skid plate was rusted more than I thought but it still came out nice
