Toy93ota's 87 SR5 Pickup

Well i sold both my 94 and 93 pickups and bought a cummins. I know its not a toyota but its practical for me. Anyways with winter coming i wanted another toyota to drive to work and do whatever else i need it to do so i bought this 87 extra cab. 120k, SR5, even included a rusty bed! It didnt run when i bought it and quickly figured out the fuel line was broken. Ended up replacing a few fuel lines and brake lines, cut off the rusted out bed and began building a flatbed.

This pic was after i had completed the flatbed, i will put some more pics up of the flatbed build.

Enjoy!

Nice, rust was always part of the price of the Toyota, good luck on the build.
What plans?

Well i finally got some pics downloaded of the flatbed. Built it mostly out of 2x2 square tubing save the back was a 2x6 and the sides were 1x2. I opted to make it the same width as the cab and ended up shortening the length of the bed to the end of the frame. So far i really like having a flatbed, ill admit i wasn't the biggest fan of them but they are very practical especially for what i'm doing with this rig.

I repaired the cab corner before I did the bedliner. I ended up using a patch panel off an 79 ford van since i couldnt find one for the truck.

I had to replace the radiator last night, it was completly fallen apart. When i unbolted it the right side mount it separated from the radiator.

New radiator with shroud installed

Had to trim the shroud about an inch here to clear the A/C compressor

Swimmer- I liked the factory decals too, however when i replaced the front fenders they had to go.

RMP- Not going too crazy on the build, for now. I would be happy with a tire/wheel combo and a locker but we'll see.

Good tip on the rocker panels since no one manufactures them for 84-88 trucks or 4Runners. A guy on eBay has them for $30 each.

Great work on the flat bed, like the idea on the rocker panels. With all the rust I was thinking its a new jersey truck lol

Update-Made alot of changes to the truck. It had a tick ever since i got it and even after a valve adjustment it didn't make much of a difference, ended up needing a camshaft which lead me to discover the head was cracked. So after a new head, cam, and rocker assembly its back together and running pretty well. I didnt get much else done on the truck until the last few weeks i decided to get it in the garage and throw a lift, wheels and tires, exhaust, etc. I put balljoint spacers upfront, replaced upper balljoints while i was there, put blocks in the back and shocks all the way around. Ended up buying shackles from marlin(quality parts) and am going to take the block out and just run the shackles. I also bought a hedman header and ran 2 1/2 all the way back just over the rear axle with a summit fully welded muffler. I managed to weld the entire exhaust and install it all together so i dont have to worry about leaks. Anyways on with the pics. Also, i ordered new goodyears since i hated the 265s i had on for a short time.
