Chevy 63" leaf conversion

Just had a couple questions about this conversion that i could find looking at the existing threads. 1: what diameter are the leaf spring eyes? 2: i have a bobbed bed and i cut the excess frame right up to the weld on the stock spring hangers. will the leaf springs still fit or do they need that excess frame? thanks!

By diameter are you referring to the bolt hole (9/16" BTW) or the military wrap portion?
To run 63's, the rear shackle needs to be moved back, or you need to run rediculously long shackles. I plan to bob mine in the near future, so I opted for the shorter F150 springs, that might be a better option if you don't have any frame behind your shackles.

right on! i was told that the chevy 63's were stronger then the wagoneer leaf springs that i got so i was planning on doing those. the rears are 57inches eye to eye and im really hoping that they arent too long. also, for the f150 springs, do you happen to know what length or how many is in a pack in them? i have a rear set that is a 5 pack but i dont remember the length. also, does anyone who reads this know where/what to weld inside the 3rd housing to lock it up?

Check out the first link that I posted above for length, number of leafs, etc. Mine are from a '92 2wd and measure 57" and have 4 leafs plus an overload leaf. This varies quite a bit between trucks.

Most people weld the 4 spider gears together. There's tons of info out there on the subject, google lincoln locker. Keep in mind that its permanent and eats up tires. You could do the same thing with a spool, but its reversable if you change your mind.

Check out my build thread for my 85, it's where I used F150's.

If you are going to weld your 3rd - is it a v6 or 4cyl one?

91 4runner: the 3rd in my yota is the 8" V6 3rd member. looked all over and i couldnt find a thread with pictures that my lap top would open.

87 Deathtrap: i was going to go with a spool but to have someone install the spool is expensive.....i understand it eats up tires that doesnt bother me, but it bothers the wife! i also found in my search for how to weld a diff, a guy that put chev 63s on his bobbed bed. his shackles look like they're only about 6 inches. i dont know a dang thing about the positioning of the leafs on the axle, why you would move your front axle forward or why you would move your rear axle one way or the other. another question though, can i just do my rear suspension set up before i do my SAS? its a bone stock ifs front end and rear. im just trying to work with what i've got while im saving up for axle components and upgrades.

I have a quick side question on the chevy springs.....sorry to interrupt.

The ones I got have different length bolts that hold the leaf packs together....

Question is: Does it matter? Should/can I just replace them with some fresh ones of the same diameter and washers/nuts? Is there a length they should/should not be?

thanks

As long as the center bolts are in good shape, the length is not an issue. If one is too long, chop it off. Or you can get replacements:

Thanks! You know, I'll probably be contacting you for shims when I do this anyway, so I'll be sure to get some of these bolts too - just to start clean
