'84 to '88 body swappage

I'm not sure if this is the right thread for this or not, but I'm wondering if the body from an 88 will line up with the frame of an 84? I believe so but I don't want to buy a donor truck without knowing. I have an 84 with a reg cab no box and I have found a really nice 88 ext cab. I took a few measurements and it seems alright. Please help me out if you know.

It SHOULD work. There may be some variances(carb to EFI cabs) but body mounts should work. There may be a difference in the "G" series to "W" series trans/crossmember, but that I am not sure of.

*sigh* Search, and you'll find that you're going to have to move body mounts

well, search told me that you have to move things for a 4 runner. HOWEVER, a pickup is different because i am only moving the cab. there is nothing I found in search to define my situation of putting a ext cab onto a reg cab frame. Thank you

Xcab cab is longer so the rear cab mount will need to be moved to the new location (about 10" back). On the reg. cab frame, the xcab will encroach into the bed, so it'll need to be chopped to fit like below:

On this pickup, the bed was also bobbed in back to leave it about square, maybe 4' long.

thanks for the replies guys but I went ahead and redrilled the frame for the xtra cab and welded the old mounts up with 7018. looks good and now to get the bed and fenders back on. Will post pictures with results

More welding Imminent. Sand blasted the frame for some bed liner and found some cracks and weak spots. Out comes the 3/32 7018 rod... I'll get this thing back to stock if it takes the whole box of rods. Also thought I should mention: a good way to weld without taking the gas tank off unless your right beside it is to run exhaust through the tank from a nearby running truck/car. The heads of the bolts that hold my tank on are stripped from P/O and I'm too lazy to drill them all out.

If bed dont fit just flat bed it, unless you really need the bed. Can always make a custom bed too. I have sketched out a few idea for my Yota if the bed is ever trashed. One is to make a custom stepside using sheetmetal and old fenders from something like a dually or a old fullsize stepside.
