95 pickup cant rev above 3000rpm cold HELP!!

hey had this problem ever since the rebuild done in a shop bored .20 over comp cam minor port and polish has stock exhaust and intake for the time. so problem is it wont rev over 3000 when its cold and 2000 when it has warmed up timing is good no vacumn leaks tried a different AFM didnt solve it. plugs are black so running rich. idles fine removed the egr valve before i put the motor back in. its spring i want to get out there any help would be awesome thanks

Well, revving over 3 grand in your newly rebuilt engine isn't a very wise idea anyways.
Unless you're doing the "run it like a raped ape break in procedure"

well thats some great advice but cant even run it or drive it after its warm it wont go above 2000rpm

well the check engine light has been on since the day ive had it o2 sensors and crap never bothered it till now. and i do not have a code reader to plug in...

get a book on the truck/ or download the proper section. there is a way to self check codes with a paperclip

haha thanks. and also i was talking to my boss at my part time job performance unlimited and from what i told him he seems to think the cam gears were set up wrong as if they were set up for a short block chevy because when we put the distributor on it was 180 off making this make sense in a way and it would idle ok until a load was put on it. not sure if anyone has had an issue like this one....
