Unhappy Pickle Forking the Steering Stabilizer

anybody have any suggestions on how to get the steering stabilizer out? I pickle forked, I hammered, I yelled, I cried, I prayed... And the stupid thing still wouldn't pop out... any better way than unhooking my entire steering to get it out?

I'm assuming the stock stabilizer?

if I remember correctly, mine popped out after a few wraps with a hammer. but then again I live below the rust belt, and the oil slung all over it from a front main seal for the previous 3 months might have helped a little too, LOL

I think I recall some people using ball joint remover tools with them, though I'm not 100% sure

Gonna guess your having issues with the relay rod side rather than the frame side? I had to use one of these to get it out:

This guy (48811)?

Are you sure you're talking about the stabilizer? That's just held in with a long 12mm bolt through some rubber donuts. Getting it out isn't usually the problem; keeping it in can be.

Could you be working on the relay rod? You'll need a puller http://www.harborfreight.com/tie-rod...ller-1752.html Don't use a "pickle fork". Those are strictly for, well, amateurs.

if you've got the pickle fork already, use your man hands, a BFH, some penetrating oil and maybe some heat.

I see you have a '95, but on my '84 the stock stablizer bolt is a tapered bolt that is drawn into the hole on the tie rod when you tighten the nut. I had to cut off the large end of the bolt, then drill out the innards (like aquaprice). This was after hours of trying BFH, propane torch, pickle fork, and lots of 4 letter words. I used a hacksaw to cut the bolt, then use progressively bigger drill bits to hollow out the inside of the bolt. Took some time but it worked. TIP: when you install the new one, be sure to glob on some thread dope on the smooth taper to prevent this the next time you want to change out the stabilizer.
Good luck.

finally got it out, left it sitting there for a few days, making the truck think about how hard it was making my life... I think when it saw me coming out into the lot with a bigger meaner hammer and an angry look and it decided to play... Took quite a bit of pounding, but finally popped out... Sigh..

And scope... steering stabilizer/steering damper is what I was beating on... Thanks everyone
