2001 V6 PreRunner won't start after cleaning throttle body.

I removed the throttle body from my 2001 V6 PreRunner for a good cleaning, along with the MAS and new plugs. All went smoothly until I tried to start it up...keeps trying, but wont turn over. I double checked connections, plugs, hoses, lines, etc...

You mean the MAF? How did you clean it? Sure you got the connector plugged back in place?

Do you get spark?

Thanks Goat...yes, the MAF...used mass airflow cleaner. I've checked every hose, vac line, connector and plug at least twice.

What about the ground wire on the intake plenum? Some people unbolt or loosen that ground when doing spark plugs and it won't run without it.

I'd check if you have spark or not, unless you hear some firing. If you have spark I'd probably plug in a scanner to the OBDII plug and see what the throttle position sensor is reading at different throttle positions. Compare those readings to the FSM specs.

Did you use the right spark plugs? Kind of a dumb question but had to ask sorry.

Didn't have spark, so I reinstalled the old NGK Iridiums and it fired right up! It appears that one or all of the new NGK Iridiums was bad!

I find it hard to believe that all the plugs would be bad and if one was defective it would have still started.
Did you replace the plugs with the exact same kind?

Toyota does not spec iridium plugs for this engine, they spec a dual ground plug. NipponDenso # K16TR11 or NGK # BKR5EKB-11.

I have bosch platinum 4's and never had a problem. I love them. But maybe I'm just the type of person that buys into that marketing hype, note my k&n intake instead of isr and deckplate

That's for longevity though, the single ground will just wear out faster. I've been running them for the last few years, so they will run but you have to keep an eye on them.

Oh well, glad you got it running.

Ray - I found it hard to believe also, but tried it anyway. All plugs were an exact number match to the iriduims I pulled out, which have been in my truck for about 70,000 - I double checked each plug to make sure each part number matched. They looked pretty damn good by the way...

Prorunner - I've been thinking abou trying those, but I'm hesitant to go away from NGK

Goat - I appreciated your input, thanks!

My theory, you moved something to get the plugs in and loosened the ground by the diagnostics plug. Changing back, you did it right and re-tightened the ground. My bet is the new plugs were fine.

I am siding with The Durk on this one.

I will say three years ago a buddy changed out his plugs on a 98~99 Camry and thing would not fire afterwards. All grounds, etc. were good to go. Turns out that the auto parts store (O'reilys I think) sold him plugs that were too short, hence the wire boot did not cover the plug enough to make contact to produce spark yet the thread pattern was the same so no crossthreading occured....

You're probably right Durk, but I took those plugs back anyway for some Bosch Platnum +2's. I'll take a good look around for ground wires I may have hit when I install these.
