makes grinding noise in 4wd when turnnig sharp.

hey we just had our first snow fall and i needed to use the 4wd in my 81 pick up for the first time since i was hill climbing in september. i had it in 4H and was in a parking lot making a sharp turn when i noticed a grinding noise so i did a few laps and found when i turn left or right really sharp it makes a loud grinding noise. i also noticed it seemed to take quite a bit of efort for my truck to move its self and very easy for it to stall out. does anyone have any sigestions or ideas for me to try or know what the problem is?
thanks.
dylan.

jack up the front end and start moving axles/driveline around.

umm ok could u maybe give me some detail on what im looking for or what the issue could be.
i tested it more today and found if i only lock one hub it dosent make any grinding noises but if both are looked it does. one of my hubs was seased when i bought it. i pulled it apart and put it back togehter, although it wouldnt click in to lock and whould slid past lock could that be the issue? is something not lineing up causing it to grinding when i turn

sounds like broken birf or hub stripped out.you know something is broke.get a rebuild kit from marlin and pull it apart.

look at toyospero's sticky front axle rebuild to show you what it looks like in there

another possible root cause is more than likely your front wheels were getting just enough traction to cause it to bind.

also check your wheel bearings...

could you give me a little more detail on wheel bearings. i did notice that when i turned sharp in snow with less traction its wasnt to bad and then when i hit pavement it grinded really bad. i had the seals on the inner side of the housing re-done and thought that the guy replaced the wheel bearings. is there any type of indecation that would tell me its the wheel bearing if i pull it apart?
thanks.

has to be more like a birf, trunion bearing or hub if it was in 4wd when you get the noise.seems like you would have noticed a wheel bearing since sept.
