Anyone ever put ebay headlight glass in OEM housing?

I'm ready to order my HID kit from The Retrofit Source and I have a set of OEM headlights that I want to put them in. Drawback is the glass is chipped on one. I have a set of the black ebay headlights and am wondering if the glass would fit from them to my OEMs. At first glance I would say yes, but can't verify the corners, or the the curveture.

Has anyone made the swap before?

I'm actually really eager to know also...my headlights are hammered and it seems there's not many aftermarket headlights with a decent beam patters...might be a good alternative...subscribed!

I'll try to order the HID kit next week. I'll start prepping the OEM lights (clean them up, paint a matte black...)

More prep work I can do will limit my down time. Going to try to do this over Thanksgiving break.

I'll keep you posted. And pics on anything worth while...

Just curious, did you chip the passenger or driver's light? And if you do get the ebay lenses, are you going to be replacing both? If your passenger glass is good and you are replacing it... I would be very interested in it.

My Passenger side is toast. It's got two rock chips all the way through it. The best I can tell the glass is the same from OEM to the cheapos. Same horizonal lines dividing them into thirds. Same virtical lines on the top and bottom edges of the glass. Just different codes are stamped on them. They do look like they are interchangable. Once I get them side by side I'll make my final decision.

But to answer your question, you wouldn't want my passenger side glass.

The link for the glass? No, they came out of those cheap 4 piece sets (2 headlights, 2 markers. JBM look alikes or something like that is what people call them) for sale on EBay. I bought them well over a year ago.

As for the HID Kit, that's from The Retrofit Source.

I still have to aline them a bit, but overall I'm very happy with them.

How did you swap the glass?

Mke sure you post that info so people don't think the glass just pops off the housing with clips (since its epoxied)

Just baked them like any other headlight mod. Baked once to remove the glass. Them baked the glass and oem housing to put them back together again.

psraff - great looking installation! Which kit did you get from The Retrofit Source (what brand of projector lens)? Do you have any installation photos you can share, or maybe a few tips for those of us who would like to perform this mod?

Thanks pfdaxe! You beat me to it. But I used this link that pfdaxe listed for details...

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/a...17/index3.html

As for parts, I ordered the FX-R Stage III kit and it came with these pieces:

Parts List:
1x Pair: FX-R Projectors
1x Pair: Morimoto 5Five 50w Digital Ballasts
1x Pair: Morimoto 4300k 50w D2S Bulbs
1x Pair: Value E46-R Extended Shrouds
1x Pc: H4 Harness

As for extra pics, I don't have time to post them up right this sec, and there is nothing new in them that's not posted in those other links.... But feel free to ask questions if you can't find the info...

pfdaxe - Thank you! I've got some reading to do!

psraff - Thanks for clarifying which kit you got. Are you happy with the color provided by the 4300k bulbs? Is the color straight up white, or is there any hint of blue or purple with the FX-R lenses?

Just white. No blue or purple with the 4300K. You start getting that at 6000K and higher. I do have a hint of a rainbow around the edges. But not enough to care about.
