Heat out of center vent?

Its freakin cold in Wisconsin already, and this is my first winter with my 80 long box. Is the heat supposed to come out of the center vent under the radio? Whenever I put it on this it feels just like outside air, cold as hell. My heater works like a champ on the floor and defroster. So is mine broken somehow, or did it come stock like this? If this is stock, is there a way to modify it so I can blast heat out of this vent?

My 82 does the same thing. It looks like the set up is odd ,the blower motor is above the heater core so when you set the lever to blow out the center it block air flow to the heater core. You can take the center vent loose and see the blower and diverter door on my truck. I am not sure on the 80 if it is the same.

My 80 is the same as mentioned in the above post. The center vent is actually above the heater core along with the fan so when the fan blows through the center vents it actually never blows over the heater core hence the reason the air is not heated. When I turn mine to heat it only blows out the floor just like yours. As far as I can tell its just how the duct work is designed.

yeah that one, along with the "ball" vents, doesn't really blow any heat. Just cold air.

Mine does the same but under the hood the on the back firewall there is a valve where the hoses used to go but it's been bypassed and now it's ran directly into the core. Don't know if it helps but I hope so!!

Thats all the ball vents are for. They actually pull straight from the outside, and are a true vent. Still a poor design!!
