1987 FJ60 Dies often

I have a 1987 FJ60 straight 6, 4spd. And everytime I hit a puddle of water big or small if starts to cut out and then it dies. It takes forever to get started again. I have had to trailer it home manytimes. I dont take this thing of road only on rare occasions. I has died just driving down a road with water on it. It has even I died in heavy rain. I cant make sense of it. Replaced spark plugs and wires, cap and rotor, ignition coil, and i even took an old licsense plate and made a shield for the coil. I thought it was getting wet or somthing. any advice..?

Look at whats wet when it dies. Not overly familiar with 60s but any harness plug going through the fire wall? I wouldn't check grounds first, water provides a better ground. It will provide a ground to a power wire though. Just a guess, not sure if it has a cut off but is there an oil pressure switch (not sender)? Anything else electrical down low on the engine?
